On Day 4, unbeaten batter Ben Duckett resumed his innings with skipper Ollie Pope to chase a massive total — 324.
Then Ben Duckett completed his fine fifty (54 off 88), eventually caught behind at slip by KL Rahul off Prasidh Krishna's fabulous delivery.
Later, England lost skipper Ollie Pope's wicket (27 off 34) at 106 as the third wicket.
Although Joe Root and Harry Brook turned the tide with a marathon, match-defining foundation — 195 for the fourth wicket — both batters snatched the driving seat from the visitors.
First, Harry Brook played Bazball-style cricket and punched a century — 111 off just 98 balls including 14 grounded shots and 2 sixes, in which one of the sixes gave him a lifeline, when Mo. Siraj took the catch at fine leg but his foot touched the ropes.
On the other hand, the phenomenal, calm, cool, and composed Joe Root stood like steel at the other end and clinched his 39th Test hundred (105 off 152). Both batters shattered India's hopes and dreams till now and made sure England is a strong contender to win the fifth Test before his departure.
"India’s depleted pace attack struggled, leading to a tired and toothless bowling performance."
Later, Prasidh Krishna and Mo. Siraj claimed 3 and 2 wickets for India, while Akash Deep got one.
In the evening, the game stopped due to bad light. Moreover, for the 7th wicket, both Jamie Smith and Overton remained unbeaten when England needed just 35 runs to clinch the victory.
Hence, at stumps, England were 339/6.
On the next day, India needs a miracle with the ball while England needs patience. Bowlers have delivered fiery spells from both ends, because somehow, injured Englishman Chris Woakes might come to bat if required.
